IFRS 16 was issued in January 2016 and applies to annual reporting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2019. It eliminates the current dual accounting model for lessees, which distinguishes between on-balance sheet finance leases and off-balance sheet operating leases. Instead, there is a single, on-balance sheet accounting model that is similar to current finance lease accounting.
AASB 16 Leases
AASB 16 Leases was issued in February 2016 and is effective for annual reporting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2019. AASB 16 Leases is equivalent to IFRS 16 with extra paragraphs on Leasing Treatment for Non-Profit Entities.
IND AS 116 Leases
IND AS 116 (corresponding to IFRS 16) is under consideration of the National Advisory Committee on Accounting Standards. IND AS 116 is likely to be effective for accounting periods beginning on or after from 1 April 2019.
NZ IFRS 16
NZ IFRS 16 (corresponding to IFRS 16) was issued on 11 February 2016 by the New Zealand Accounting Standards Board of the External Reporting Board. The standard becomes effective for annual reporting periods beginning on or after 1st January, 2019 with early adoption possibility.
FRS 116 Leases
On 30 June 2016, the Accounting Standards Council issued FRS 116 Leases as the Singapore equivalent of IFRS 16. The new Singapore leases standard will be effective from 1 January 2019.
ED PSAK 73 Leases
The Financial Accounting Standards Board of the Indonesian Institute of Accountants has approved the Exposure Draft (ED) PSAK 73 Leases which are the result of the adoption of IFRS 16 Leases. ED PSAK 73 is proposed to be implemented by 1 January, 2020 with earlier application permitted only for entities which have applied ED PSAK 72.
